What Core includes
Cyber Essentials Basic is a self-assessed questionnaire. Core is built around Cyber Essentials Plus, which adds an independent audit, where a certified assessor technically verifies that the controls you declared in Basic are actually in place and working, and then keeps that certification current as an ongoing managed service rather than a one-off event.
Verification is carried out through a combination of on-site and remote testing of your controls, covering the same five areas as Basic but checked directly rather than self-reported.
